Jesper Radich takes the 16th Berlin Match Race

The 16^th Berlin mach race ended with sun and Jesper Radich as winner against the local favorite Markus Wieser.

After the 3^rd round robin Radich choose Hestbaeck as opponent for the semifinal. The 2 Danish teams delivered a trilling duel, with several lead changes and spectacular mark rounding’s Jesper Radich qualified for the final with a 2:1 against Michael Hestbaeck.

In the other semifinal Markus Wieser qualified for the final against Damien Iehl with a clear 2:0 victory.

After 2 days with cold temperatures the sun finally came and the several hundred spectators on the 3 large vessels with the charismatic life comments from Christoph Schumann where ready to follow the final races.

They were all decided in the prestart by Jesper Radich, Markus Wieser never gave up until the end, despite that, the final result is 3:0 for Jesper Radich.

In the petite final Damien Iehl came out as winner with 2:1 against Micheal Hestbaeck .

Slovenia Match Race Cup

This weekend starts the Slovenia Match Race Cup (grade 2) in Izola with many top ranked skippers . An interesting line-up is guaranteed with 1.,2.,3. and 4. from Blurimini grade 2 (two weeks ago) and 1. and 3. from Sails of White Nights grade2 (last weekend). If weather improves as expected, it will surely be a challenging event on the J-24 sailboats,and the host Jure Orel will have a tough job proving ' home court' advantage.

Open Match Race Cup Hard 2007: Ian Ainslie beaten by Monnin in a dramatic final

The “Binnenbecken” is a small enclosure of Lake of Constance in Hard, Austria that provides a perfect arena for matchracing. Just big enough to set a course, so the spectators can watch from all around the bay.
In the Final Monnin won the first race. After the boat change Ainslie could beat him twice. Then boats were changed again and the fourth race went to Monnin, so that the final fifth heat decided everything. Ainslie could clearly win the start. He reacted to Monnin’s tacking attacks and they provided a fascinating duel for the spectators at the beach. In a slight wind change Monnin got in front and he succeeded in defending his lead over the following three legs.
At the price giving ceremony Eric Monnin addressed the audience: “We have been dreaming of winning a Grade Two Event for the last four years. Now we have succeeded”. And a great victory it was, seeing all the famous names behind him.
