Nations Cup in Finland - News from Peter Wibroe

Sunday News

Neugodnikov won the finals, 2-0. I beleive that Angsell won both of the starts, one of them Neugodnikov was too early and with a penalty, but Angsell could only keep the lead for the first upwind. The russians had better speed, good downwinds and better tactics, so he was able to take two points.

That's all from Helsinki!

Saturday Evening News

We have sailed the semis today. It was best to 3, and Staffan Lindberg, FIN as the winner of the double round Robin chose to sail against Martin Angsell, SWE.
In the other semi-final it was us against Neugodnikov, RUS. Lindberg and Angsell had some pretty close races, and Angsell won 3-2. The races between us and Neugodnikov where even more exciting, Neugodnikov won 3-1. But not without a fight!
We had some very close races with a lot of intense situations. Unfortunately it was up to the umpire calls to decide the winner of
2 of the races, and those calls didn't come to our advantage. I guess that's one of the toughest lessons in match race; to learn to think as an umpire, know his positions, and knowing his his strengths.
After one hour of debriefing, I learned a bit more of that lesson.

Sunday Angsell and Neugodnikov will race against each other, and Lindberg took home today so there will be no petit-final.

Regards,

Peter Wibroe
